Sleep Better
Trying to sleep with a bad back is hard. One might get less sleep when in pain, and if one doesn’t get sufficient sleep, it might worsen the back pain. In such a case, it’s best to sleep on the side to alleviate back pain. Use a pillow between the knees to keep the spine in a neutral position and reduce any strain on the back. Put a pillow under the knees if sleeping on the back is unavoidable. Use a firm, comfortable mattress.
Good Posture
Slouching can worsen back and spine problems. Poor posture can lead to back pain, especially when sitting for long periods. Sit up straight when typing so that the shoulders are relaxed and the body gets the support of the chair. Make sure to keep the feet flat on the floor. Also, use a rolled towel or pillow between the seat and lower back.
Medication from The Store
There are two categories of pain relievers available over the counter that can help with back pain: Acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Both types have different side effects, and some people might not be able to use them. Consult the doctor before taking any of these medicines. Keep in mind that medication alone may not resolve the problem.
Physical Therapy
A physical therapist can help one sit, stand, or move in a way that keeps the spine in proper alignment, in order to relieve back strain and maximize comfort. Furthermore, a physical therapist can teach one how to strengthen the core muscles that support the back, and also how to stretch. One can prevent more back pain in the future by developing a strong core. Back pain will reduce considerably when one increases their endurance, strength, and flexibility, but it may take some time to see the results.
Don’t Rest the Achy Back
Usually, doctors recommend bed rest to reduce back pain. However, lying still is one of the worst things one can do. It could worsen back pain and cause other complications. Don’t stay in bed for more than two days. It’s essential to get out of bed and slowly resume daily activities. Exercise has been found to provide fast pain relief. Also, make sure to try yoga, swimming, or walking.
