Given all the studies on alternative medicine and remedies, it’s normal to wonder if there is a natural treatment or cure for asthma. Unfortunately, there isn’t. In fact, it’s best to avoid treatments that claim to be a natural cure for asthma. That said, some natural therapies can help people manage the severity of their asthma symptoms. To this end, we’ve made a list of the top six natural remedies for asthma.

Acupuncture

This is a traditional Chinese treatment that involves a trained practitioner inserting thin needles into certain points on the body. While many have claimed that acupuncture eases their asthma symptoms, there is currently no proof that it works.

Biofeedback

Some studies have indicated that learning to control the heart rate can help people manage their asthma symptoms. However, more research and evidence is needed to confirm if biofeedback is truly helpful.

Dietary Supplements and Herbs

Many people use plants, herbs, and supplements to treat the symptoms of asthma. It’s not proven how supplements work, but regular intake of vitamin C, D, and E could lower one’s risk of symptoms.

Diet

People who have food allergies should avoid trigger foods to help with the symptoms of asthma. Some studies have also indicated that a Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, whole grains, and healthy fats, can help with asthma. Experts think this diet works because it helps reduce inflammation in the body. The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) eating plan may also help ease the symptoms of asthma.

Weight Loss and Management

Most people who are overweight and obese carry the extra weight around the center of their bodies. This can make it hard for the lungs to work normally. Losing weight can lower one’s chances of conditions that make asthma worse and can also improve lung volume. Weight loss can also make exercising easier, which could help ease the symptoms of asthma.

Caffeine

Caffeine works as a mild bronchodilator, which essentially means it can help open the airways. Studies have found that this can help people with asthma.
